Binmaley town is now set to celebrate the “Sigay Festival 2014”. The term “sigay” is a Pangasinan dialect word which means to harvest. This town, considered as the “fishbowl” of the whole Region 1, managed to retain the lead in aquaculture in the area with its increased production of fish last year.
At present, brackish water ponds in the town dedicated mainly for the production of bangus (milkfish), tilapia, prawn, vannamei (white shrimps), and malaga (siganid).
Sigay Festival is then Binmaleyan’s way of celebrating the town’s rich aquaculture industry which serves as the main source of living for residents here.
